The internal platform that unifies Orygen's rural land analysis
Orygen analyses rural land with real data so owners, companies and developers know what they can do with a plot and whether it's profitable before they invest or develop. Until then that analysis was done by hand, with the information scattered across maps, environmental layers and legal documentation. I designed the internal platform that brings it all into a single flow and cuts the analysis time.

The challenge: scattered analysis, one single platform
Validating a plot before investing or developing on it sounds simple, and it isn't: it means cross-referencing technical and legal data of very different kinds.
Until then, the team of analysts and forestry engineers worked each plot by hand: gathering all the available information from the state and the owner, spread across different sources, places and criteria. Every analysis meant reassembling that puzzle from scratch.
The team's challenge was to automate that analysis: turn all that information into an API and pour it into an internal platform that would drastically cut the time per plot.
My challenge was the other side of that automation: turning that flood of new data and structured tables —an endless stream of information— into a queryable, useful product.
I started with a prototype of my own UI. But the decision, agreed with the internal development team, was to build the product on top of the Material UI kit: it was the lowest-friction option for them to implement and maintain. From there I designed on top of that system, themed to Orygen's identity.
First, the information architecture
Before the interface came the map. I laid out the platform's sitemap and the feasibility report flows to pin down which screens existed, how they linked and how a plot's analysis moved through them.
A dashboard that brings together map, data and report
The whole tool revolves around a plot's record. On the left, the project data; in the centre, the satellite map; and below, the plot's climograph.
Over the map, a column of environmental layers that switch on on demand — temperature, rainfall, aridity, hydrology, climatology, soil water volume, slopes and orientations. The analyst turns on only what they need to see at each moment.
Three roles over the same plot
The navigation is organised by role — administrator, owner and developer — so each profile goes straight to what concerns them without getting lost in the rest of the platform.
Inside each plot, a set of tabs orders the work: Summary, Flows, Owner, Evaluation report and Action proposal.
The owner tab gathers the people linked to the plot, their interests and the survey data. That way the plot's human context sits alongside the technical one.
The evaluation report, structured
The heart of the platform is the evaluation report, which turns the scattered data into an ordered, navigable document, section by section.
It's structured into collapsible blocks: general characteristics, legal status and certification and the state of the natural environment, which groups the ecological characteristics, the climatological and hydrological ones, and the geological and geomorphological ones.
It closes with the net area for reforestation and the attached files. What used to be a puzzle of sources becomes a report you read from top to bottom.
What's shown in the video corresponds to the prototype. The final product, now integrated and in internal use at Orygen, is confidential.
